Ducati 999 S Full Carbon

February 26th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Motorcycle

This mysterious looking motorcycle is the creation of German tuner Befaster and it not only attracts our attention with its unique look, but with an impressive power to weight ratio too: 1.88 horsepower for every kilo. This translates into a 170 hp engine, which, as the light weight, surely doesn’t come standard on the original Ducati bike.

The weight of the standard bike (186 kg) was reduced with 43 kg by installing a set of components made out of carbon fiber and titan instead of the original ones. Furthermore, the engine’s displacement was increased to 1.037 ccs, which explains the 170 hp.

2009 Star V Star 950

February 26th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Motorcycle

The V Star name itself says pretty much everything about a bike so Star wanted to change things for the better in that concern. They directed 950’s look towards a modern direction in such an outstanding manner that you can’t call it a classic cruiser neither a custom. Both motorcycle body types are expected to have a V-twin motor so V Star’s 942cc, air-cooled, four-stroke, V-twin; SOHC with four valves per cylinder isn’t of much help when trying to position this cruiser precisely in a certain category. The best thing about this unit is that it gets fuel injection which translates into 58.2 ft-lbs at 3500 rpm torque figures. Star didn’t release any information related to horsepower, but given the engine’s displacement and torque numbers, horsepower should be approximately 50 at the crank.

1995 Ferrari motorcycle searching for owner

February 25th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Motorcycle

Arlen Ness, before ending up designing Victory motorcycles for Polaris Industries, designed a Ferrari motorcycle inspiring on their famous Maranello model. It seems that the bike is the only one to have received an official Ferarri chassis number (SF-01M) as it apparently met the Italian car builder’s demands. The two-wheeled Ferarri is, of-course, a sportbike with great references not only thanks to its name, but also due to the 900cc DOHC motor developing 105 horsepower at 8,800 rpm.

Although the headlight is almost identical to what you would find on a 1995 Suzuki GSX-R750, the bike features Testarossa styling cues on the sides, the four-cylinder engine looks like handmade and the Ferrari Red makes it definitely stand out. But how radical, sophisticated or unique can a motorcycle be or look like so that someone would pay as muck as $300K for it these days. It seems that we will have to wait until the 20th to find out as that is when the auction for this bike ends.

2009 Honda CRF250R Preview

February 25th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Motorcycle

Creating the 2009 CRF250R, Honda engineers aimed towards power at all rpm levels as well as handling, resulting in a very well balanced motorcycle which’s small changes make all the difference. For example, the engine’s lower-to mid-rpm range was improved by reshaping the cylinder-head combustion chamber. This required the lengthening of the exhaust header in order for that rhythm to be sustained all through the rpm range of that already strong pulling four-stroke 249cc liquid-cooled four-valve Unicam motor.

The engine now mates to a new transmission with four-dog gears, new shift drum and shift drum arm for more precise shifting so the most important things when revising a bike have been totally covered up.
