For all those who feared a Top Gear on NBC would be kinda stale (myself included), there’s some good news… NBC and the BBC have decided to go their separate ways. According to Jalopnik, the failure of Knight Rider turbo-boosted TG USA into the crapper.But is no U.S. based Top Gear better than a lame Top Gear?We may not have to answer that question because Top Gear’s own website is claiming that they are in negotiations with cable outlets for the show. According to the site, BBC has decided to take the show to cable, where presenters’ funny mouths, from which often spill foul words, will be more at home.But that still doesn’t solve all the problems. The programmers at Black Box entertainment have just released this screenshot for Need for Speed World Online. What we can tell from the image is that the game includes numerous interfaces floating inside the game window that will be customizable based on the users preference. Car Blogs -Need For Speed is going online in a big way
With the termination of EA’s Black Box division the thought was that the Need For Speed franchise would be soon to follow. Falling sales and mediocre reviews have sent the once promising franchise into despair. However, the designers at EA have not thrown the towel in yet.More after the jump.Next month a beta version of Need for Speed: World Online will open for gamers to enjoy online in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Electronic Arts is claiming that NFS: World Online will be the largest free roaming environment that the series has ever produced.To boost the spirit of networking, teams will be allowed to form and take out rival car gangs as well as police forces. Car Blogs -Need For Speed: SHIFTs into a new gear
Since the release of Need For Speed in 1994 on the 3DO gaming system, the series has experienced its share of ups and downs. Most recently with the lackluster performance of the NFS: Undercover title. Many gamers feared what would become of the NFS series. Some speculated that NFS would no longer be produced by Black Box Studios but instead by Criterion Games, developers of Burnout Paradise.More after the jump.Then, all of the sudden, as if out of nowhere NFS came out with not one or two, but three new offerings games! At the forefront is Need for Speed SHIFT that also comes with a free online title, Need for Speed World Online. The final release, only for the Nintendo Wii game console, is Need for Speed: Nitro.SHIFT has the potential to compete with games like GRID from Codemaster. GRID, was developed by the UK-based Slightly Mad Studios, and is 95 percent pure racing simulation that also has an arcade feel that welcomes non-race driving gamers. Audi wasn’t very successful with the last A2. It’s tall and round look made this Europe-only supermini the ugly duckling of the Audi family (and this was even during the time Audi was getting mixed results with the introduction of the trapezoidal grille on its sedans.) The car was finally killed off in 2005 and few wept.Audi wants another chance at the small car, but it also thinks its learned it lesson. Audi’s head of Research and Development Michael Dick told Autocar that the new car will be recognisable as an A2 but very different from the old car. Also the cost will be spread across the Volkswagen Group. We will not make the same mistake as with the first A2 and do it all by ourselves, said Dick.Audi also plans to make an electric version of the car immediately available. This means it will take a little longer to develop than a conventional car. Although Volkswagen is getting ready to produce the Up, a small car with hybrid possibilities, Dick says Audi won’t utilize that platform. Looks like this BMW Z4 wanted to go and find its family roots. This car was caught near BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina, which was the home of the first generation Z4.It doesn’t make much sense for this car to have its BMW badged masked. The car has already premiered, and it should be in showrooms by May. Last month we got a spy shot of a possible Ferrari 599 Spider that was spotted last summer. Now it seems that car is still alive and out for testing in this new spy shot.This is proof that Ferrari is working on something new, but is it a 599? maybe the rumored but unseen Dino? What is known is that Ferrari has got something new on its hands, and it’s keeping this car a secret.The car in this shot has a 599 GTB Fiorano body, but there are some subtle differences. There is a cut in the roofline at the A-pillar possibly for a convertible top (or maybe even targa roof or a sliding glass roof like the Superamerica.) The 599 double C-pillar could also mask the shape of a modified roofline.Depending on what is being tested here could mean two very different sports cars. If this is a 599, then it would likely come with the car’s 200+ mph V12 engine. If this is a Dino, it the engine could have as little as half of the cylinders as the 599. When Mercedes unveiled the sedan/coupe CLS back in 2004 it had no competitor. We can’t say the same today: Audi just showed a preview of the new A7, Jaguar’s XJ replacement is still on schedule, and no one knows the state of BWM’s on again/off again CS concept. So Mercedes knows it needs to stay fresh to stay competitive, and a new CLS will be launched by the end of 2009.For better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, all the engines we see will be attached to turbochargers. Mercedes may even drop a turbo four-cylinder in the options list, but that has not been confirmed for the U.S. market.The 2010 CLS is rumored to be longer and wider that the current car to create a roomier interior. Mercedes need to be careful with this redesign. Customers buy the CLS more on style than on substance. Car Blogs -New VW Polo to debut in Geneva; first U.S. deliveries in 2011
Last summer when gas prices started skyrocketing, every auto manufacturer searched their international offerings to see what small car may work for the U.S. Volkswagen is no exception. The company was once known for small cars in the States, but its current smallest entry, the original Rabbit/Golf, has constantly grown in size and weight over its four model revisions. In fact, the four-cylinder engine is scarce on VW’s U.S. lineup (and only with turbochargers). So its no surprise that Volkswagen started floating the rumor that the sub-Rabbit sized 2010 Polo may come stateside.Everyone will get their first glimpse at the next generation Polo at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now word is coming down that starting 2011 the Polo will also be available in the U.S. This will help VW in its attempt to grow sales to 800,000 units in the region. The Polo is already an international hit for VW.
