Car Blogs -Next M3 will get turbo six engines
The days of high-revving, big engine BMW M cars are over. The V10 in the M5 will be replaced with a twin-turbo V8, and now details are emerging on the cylinder loss for the next generation M3.Right now BMW’s hottest 3-Series car is propelled by a 4.0-liter 414 hp V8 engine, but when the next generation 3-Series comes in 2012, don’t expect the engines to get above six cylinders. BMW’s M Group CEO, Ludwig Willisch told Motor Trend that a turbocharged six-cylinder engine is a must for the next generation M3.But don’t despair just yet. While the horsepower from the six cylinder engine won’t likely be as much as the current V8, the weight savings should give the car similar performance with better fuel economy. This will also move more of the car’s weight towards the center. Willisch said the V6 is a more compact engine that could be butted up against the firewall.BMW has been flexing its horsepower muscle in the last few years, but now the next cars will be more about showing off engineering talent. It may take a few years for automobile sales to recover, but that’s not going to stop Bentley from making a few new roll outs. It just may mean a few more of the unseen bits are borrowed from other members of the Volkswagen family (i.e. mass-produced).By the fall There will be a new version of the Arnage for the Grey Poupon crowd. While we will have no trouble accepting the tester car from Bentley, the new one that will really make news is the replacement for the honey mustard-loving crowd: the Continental.Bentley makes about 8,000 Continentals per year in two-door (GT), four-door (Flying Spur), convertible (GTC) and high-performance (Speed) models. While this would be considered small batches for more car companies, this is Bentley’s idea of mass production.The current Continental already shares a platform Volkswagen Phaeton, but the rumor is that the replacement due in 2011 will borrow even more bits from its VW siblings. Car Blogs -Next generation Legacy to debut in New York
Ever since the Detroit Auto Show, Subaru has been showing off the Legacy Concept wherever it can. It could be that Subaru is proud of the distinctive sedan, or that it’s still waiting to partner with Toyota for a coupe. Either way the production car should be finally revealed soon.It’s likely we’ll see the new sedan at the New York Auto Show in April. It should carry much of the concept’s styling, just with some production-ready features, like proper side mirrors. It may even keep the 3.6-liter boxer engine borrowed from the Tribeca. Porsche is working on a on full second generation for the Cayenne. Don’t squint too hard at the picture, we can’t tell too much of a difference yet either. In true Porsche fashion, we expect its next SUV will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary.From the spy shot it looks like the hood may have a few more angles added and the fenders may be a little more defined. Rumors also have the next Cayenne possibly borrowing a few design elements from the Panamera.We don’t have any info on the mechanical improvements, but it is suspected that Porsche will be trying to be more fuel efficient with this SUV. With only sports cars and SUVs currently on its books, Porsche may be looking to drop is average company CO2 emissions down a few notches. Detroit is not the only car show going on next month. The Tokyo Auto Salon (think Japan’s SEMA) will start on January 9th. On of the first features we’re getting in is the tuner Branew’s take on the Nissan 370Z.Although the 370Z is not in dealerships yet, but Branew already has a kit with new carbon fiber front spoiler, side steps, rear spoiler and rear wing. It also gets Titan & Stainless Exhaust and 20, 21 or 22-inch wheels. a new computer tune, new suspension kit and new brake system compete the modifications. This is not the first modification program we’ve seen for the 370Z, but the last one was direct from the factory with NISMO’s 370Z.No word yet on pricing or how this will effect the 370Z’s 332 hp. Famous for their complete packages the tuning company IMPUL modifies a wide variety of Japanese automobiles. IMPUL’s current project is the IMPUL 934S which starts with a base Nissan 370Z was showcased early this month at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The complete IMPUL package consists of power, aerodynamic and handling upgrades.The aero kit comes with a smoothed front bumper, side skirts, rear half-bumper and rear wing to round off the appearance. The package also comes with 19-inch IMPUL Racing Aura SR-08 rims, another IMPUL signature. The rollers measure 19×8.5 inches in the front with a +21 mm offset and 19×9 inches in the rear with a +29 mm offset giving the car a staggered wheel package. The Toyota Aygo usually doesn’t make it on our radar. It’s a little econobox that isn’t sold in the U.S., and it doesn’t get anywhere fast. So why is it even worth posting? Because the magazine Bonzai got its hands on the little cheepster and more than doubled its 67 hp by supercharging the 1.0-liter engine to 138 hp.There were plenty of Toyota Motorsport kit pieces added to the car, as well as adjusting the ride height to the lowest legal limit.
