General Motors and Toyota shop at Hyundai

August 18th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in GMC

Hyundai has been trying to shake the image of providing a low quality product since the first round of cars was introduced to the U.S. in 1985 (the first generation Excel looked, felt and drove like it was assembled by preschoolers.) Since then it has taken great steps to improve all quality on its cars, and now it seems the big boys might be taking notice. Hyundai can confirm that General Motors and Toyota were some of the first to line up to buy one of the 800 Genesis sedans in its first month of sales.

2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon premieres at Pebble Beach

August 18th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Cadillac

Cadillac is getting serious about the European market, and that’s evident with the premiere of the CTS Sport Wagon today at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. While wagons have not always been the preference for North American customers, the extra space finds favor with European customers. The wagon was a natural evolution for Cadillac considering the CTS was designed to compete with sedans from Germany such as the Audi A4 and the BMW 3-Series. The more aggressive lines suggest that the CTS Sport Wagon is going after A4 Avant customers.

2008 Ford Fusion SEL Review

August 18th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Ford

When you take into consideration that the 2008 Ford Focus we reviewed last week cost $19,365, this (almost) loaded 2008 Ford Fusion SEL at $22,785 (as tested) seems like a bargain for only a few grand more. And it is. While it may not get the excellent fuel economy of the Focus, the Fusion is worlds above the Focus in terms of fit & finish, driving dynamics, and overall quality. But just because it trumps the Focus doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a great buy. It still has the mid-size class leaders to compete with.

One thing to keep in mind - our review model was a model year 2008. If you go out and buy one now (mid-2008,) you may also get a 2009 model, which has a few key changes. Most notably, the 4-cylinder SEL model that we drove is no longer available in a 5-speed manual transmission, only a 5-speed automatic. Other changes related to this review are that the optional $295 ambient lighting is now standard in the SEL, as is Sirius satellite radio.

Veno Automotive looking to build a better Lamborghini

August 18th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Lamborghini

That is not a Reventón pictured above, but rather a new Polish sports car (insert your joke here.) Lamborghini should be quite happy with the new design coming from Veno Automotive, after all imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery.

Veno has ambitious goals for the car. It says the supercar will be made from carbon fiber and the chassis can withstand the force brought on by 1000 horsepower. It will be available in coupe and roadster versions and will feature an array of gadgets like a night vision camera with pedestrian detection, onboard computer with internet access and doors that open with the touch of a button.
