My Lamborghini Gallardo was one of the dearest possessions I had, and the idea of parting with it was, quite simply, very disheartening. But life can be harder than we expect it to be. The rumormill is floating a big one here. Last night the first Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro that will arrive in the U.S. went to auction at the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance. Although the exact price cannot be confirmed, it sold for around $500,000.The R8 V10 will be powered by the same 5.2 liter V10 as the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The engine is rated at 525 hp, which is 105 more than the V8 version but about 27 less than the Gallardo.The first 2010 Ferrari California for the U.S. market was also auctioned during this event (the first 2009 car was auctioned in September) , and the combined price of the two cars is rumored to be about $1 million. All proceeds of the event will go to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, Florida.We should get final pricing early this week. Everything Italian is sexy, or at least that is the way it is supposed to be. This is the latest design from illustrator Tim Cooper, a potential product to be sold by Tonino Lamborghini. Tonino is the lifestyle brand associated with the automaker that sells everything from Bluetooth headsets to coffeemakers inspired by the flashy Italian automaker.The stilettos are styled after the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and feature details from the actual car including a carbon fiber heel. Everything from headlights and air intakes up front to the scoops on either the side right in front of the heel (for additional cooling of course) are modeled after the road car. The sexiest feature is the black stripe with Supperleggera written in white that follows the contour up the shoe.The Superleggera (car) featured a 530 HP V10 and would sprint from 0-60 MPH (0-100 km/hr) in 3.8 seconds. Lamborghini announced the European prices on the new Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder will start from €273,142. That’s about $370,000 at the direct current rates, but we expect Lambo to be a little more friendly to the dollar crowd when actual U.S. pricing is announced.Just in case you have any spare change left over, there are plenty of option boxes to check with the Spyder. This includes ceramic brake discs for €19,356, painted calipers (yellow, orange or gray) for €1,129 and power heated front seats for €4,839.The Gallardo Spyder will be powered by a the same 5.2 liter V10 engine that is in the coupe version. It delivers 560 hp and over 380 lb ft. of torque to all four wheels. Until the Gallardo came along, Lamborghini didn’t have a whole lot of experience with all-wheel drive. There was the Hummer-like LM002 and the VT version of the Diablo, but that was about it. So now for the Superleggera version of the latest Gallardo, it should come as no real surprise that Lambo is ditching the four wheels power for two.The hottest Gallardo will now be rear-wheel drive only. The Superleggera series is all about weight savings, and ditching the components to drive the front wheels could save as much as 150 lbs. The two-wheel drive car’s diet will also likely include plenty of carbon fiber bits to replace heavier elements in the current car.In pure TopSpeed specultion, the new rear end transaxle may be borrowed from Lamborghini’s corporate cousin, Audi’s R8 LMS. Lamborghini tuner IMSA has just released an updated version of their GTV kit for the Gallardo LP 560. The kit consists of an aerodynamically optimized front bumper with two large openings on either side of a small wing in the center section, like on the Ferrari Enzo. There are accentuated arches at all four corners allowing the use of wider rubber for more grip. The back bumper has also been redesigned incorporating a rear diffuser. Completing the aerodynamic treatment are side skirts that channel air around the car instead of underneath, this helps to further suck the Lamborghini to the ground at high speeds.IMSA’s hope for this aero package is to enhance the performance of the vehicle both aesthetically and dynamically and remind the public of the legendary GTV models from the good old days.
