Car Blogs -Hyundai Equus revealed; might come to USA

April 15th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Hyundai seems to be teasing the U.S. with its largest sedan, the Equus. Hyundai has been making various generations of this car for over a decade mostly for the home market in Korea, and it has done a good job of keeping it of North America’s radar, until now. At the beginning of the year there was a teaser sketch, and now official pics and a press release (in English) has surfaced. So, is Hyundai thinking about giving the Genesis sedan a big brother in America? Time will only tell. What we do know is that the new Equus will come with the 268 hp 3.8-liter V6 and 360 hp 4.6-liter V8 from the Genesis. Hyundai may also enlarge the V8 to 5.0-liters for the large sedan. The Equus should be in Korean showrooms by next month.Full press release after the jumpPRESS RELEASE

Car Blogs -Hyundai steps up their genesis game by recruiting Rhys Millen Racing

April 15th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Just announced at the Chicago Auto show is that Rhys Millen will spearhead Hyundai’s motorsports efforts with the Genesis Coupe. He and the car are scheduled to compete at Pikes Peak, a full season of Formula D and numerous Redline Time Attack events throughout 2009.I’m a free agent, so if Hyundai is interested in me for Pikes Peak or Formula Drift or road racing, I’m open, said Pikes peak record holder and Formula D champion Millen. To prepare for the task ahead the team at RMR has prepared a Genesis Coupe by stitch-welding the chassis and then installing the carbon fiber body panels from the RMR SEMA Genesis. This was done in an effort to increase the structural rigidity and bring down the weight of the car. Mr. Millen has a target weight of a 2,400 lb curb weight.

Car Blogs -Hyundai Genesis coupe Spec R to debut in Chicago

April 15th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Hyundai is getting serious about the performance coupe with the Genesis. If Nissan can make a SpecV version of its performance cars, then the 2010 Genesis coupe can get a Spec R version. The Spec R starts with the standard 212 hp 2.0-liter turbo V6 rather than the 306 hp 3.6-liter V6 most likely to give the tuners something to work with. No extra power is added to the engine, but instead the car is made lighter by taking out some standard equipment. The production-ready slimmed-down coupe will be unveiled later this week at the Chicago Auto Show.

Car Blogs -Hyundai Veloster into production and also into USA?

April 15th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

When Hyundai unveiled the Veloster concept back in 2007 at the Seoul Motor Show we all thought it had some potential. But we were also quickly distracted by other larger, shiner objects from Hyundai, namely the Genesis coupe. Now that the Tiburon is dead, Hyundai is rumored to be resurrecting the plans for the Veloster. If true, the smaller front-wheel drive Veloster would be a nice compliment to Hyundai’s rear-drive hot rod Genesis. It would also give Hyundai a strong coupe lineup. The logical choice to power this car would be Hyundai’s 2.0-liter four cylinder engine. Power would likely fall between the 138 hp found in the Elentra Touring and the 210 hp when turbocharged for the base Genesis coupe. If all goes well the Veloster may find its way to U.S. dealerships by 2011 or 2012.

Car Blogs -Korean media has fun with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe

April 13th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

This is why professional videographers make the difference. Add few funky camera angles and place the camera in the correct places, and it looks like everyone is having high speed fun (did one of those just sound like an Italian?) Then again Hyundai Genesis Coupe does have a 306 hp 3.8-liter V6, so maybe this test day with the Korean press is not all smoke and mirrors.

XF has landed Jaguar on our 2009

March 16th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

BY DAVE VANDERWERP, PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICH CHENET AND THE MANUFACTURER
Is it surprising that the XF has landed Jaguar on our 2009 10Best Cars list, the first time in the award’s 27-year history? Absolutely. That is, until about five minutes into driving this new S-type replacement.

Sure it looks sleek and sinuous, particularly in black, but what really won us over is how the XF strafes back roads with an agility that escapes nearly all its competition. Light and accurate steering and a quick-acting transmission add to the sense of engagement. Considering the optional 35-series 20-inch tires, the XF’s unflinching structure and limber ride quality are nothing short of incredible. A balanced 0.88 g on the skidpad and 155-foot stops from 70 mph—that’s Corvette territory—are at the top of the segment.
