Car Blogs -Porsche 911 (998) Carrera Cabrio first ever spy shot

April 19th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

We’re just getting settled with the latest update to the Porsche 911 (997) Carrera, but we also know the 998 is just around the corner. We’ve already seen the spy shot of the future Turbo version out for a little testing, and now we see the convertible testing to make sure the new top can handle the cold stuff. What’s really great from this spy shot is the shape of the new convertible roof. The next 911 Cabriolet may use a lower and flatter roof, which is reminiscent of the 356 Speedster. How much will this drop-top take from the classic Porsche design? We should know by 2011 when this new 911 hits the streets.

Okay, we are not going to go through the whole process again about how Porsche may get a version of Volkswagen’s BlueSport Concept. A rendering of the roadster is a good excuse to focus on the Porsche side of the speculation, but for those that don’t know the whole story, just read this. The basics are if Porsche gets in bed with the VW Bluesport, it could either serve as the new smaller, lighter Boxster or slot under the Boxster as a 914 revival. The German company is too proud of its heritage to be reduced to selling car on nostalgia. If a Bluesport Porsche does go into production, no matter who does the actual assembly, Porsche would still be the one to make the engine. The likely candidate would be it’s planned four-cylinder powerplant.Remember that this is a lot of speculation. Porsche has a lot of obstacles including a large investment in facilities, and it would need to

Mercedes-Benz’s SLR McLaren “Speedster”

September 25th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Car News

Well, looks like Mercedes is going at it again.

The SLR McLaren is a fantastic supercar, combining the luxury, quality, and technical precision of Mercedes with the performance prowess of McLaren. The car can hit 208 mph, accelerates from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, has 617 horses and 575 pound-feet of torque. That all sounds good, until you hit the price tag of around $500,000. Sales never matched expectations, and have been steadly dropping off.
