The Tesla Model S, the Spark in Electric Cars

Why is it that most electric cars look like they’ve been designed by five year olds? The Gee Wiz, the Nice MyCar, the Sakura Maranello 4, all cars that would, without the benefit of CGI, fit quite comfortably into the next Pixar Cars Movie. Why? When electric car designers roll up their sleeves and sit in front of a drawing board, do they suddenly regress to an age where trees look like lollipops and sheep bear a striking resemblance to the clouds above them. Funky, innovative, ground breaking designs that are hardly ever practical. That was until the launch of the Tesla Model S.

A quick look at the world of electric cars

The concept of electricity as a fuel for vehicles has been one of the most interesting ideas since a long time. It gained high significance following the fluctuating petrol and diesel prices and increasing awareness about environment among the people. The environmentalists have been vehemently supporting electricity as an alternative fuel. Thus, electric vehicles in general and electric cars in particular are popular throughout the world. Consequently, many electric vehicles have been manufactured and are being widely used across the world.

Car Blogs -Ecotricity to produce EV sports car by the end of 2009

April 20th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Lightweight Lotus designs seem to be a favorite to turn into electric vehicles. The Elise was the basis for the Tesla Roadster. Chrysler just basically strapped a bunch of batteries to the Europa to make the Dodge EV, and now Ecotricity has been modifying an Exige to make its own plug-in sports car.Ecotricity is actually a company that sells electricity captured by wind, so the concept car could almost be considered wind-powered. The British company has only spent about £200,000 ($290,000) so far, but it says the car should be able to make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in four seconds and hit a top speed of 140 mph. This is more then just a pipe dream. The engineers have even put in some interesting features like a finger print recognition ignition (start the car with a finger print). If all goes right, this electric car could be in production by the end of this year. The largest hurdle that seems to be left to cross is giving the little guy a name.Check out some of the videos after the jump to watch the progress of

Car Blogs -JJAD P1-E - UK’s response to Tesla Roadster

April 14th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

For enthusiasts to get behind electric cars, they have to be quick, nimble and just all-around fun. Tesla has made the first step with the Lotus-based Roadster, and if Shelby Super Cars can deliver on its promises, the Ultimate Aero EV may be the first supercar to not make us miss the gas pump. But America shouldn’t be the only one producing this kind of fun. Now, former McLaren designer Jim Dowle has created the U.K.-based JJAD to produce its own electric sports car called the P1-E.According to JJAD the P1-E should accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds (by comparison Veyron makes it in 2.6 seconds) will weight only 1,055kg (2325 lbs.) and will have a practical range of 230 miles. Prices for the P1-E will start from £55,000 (around $78,000 at the current rates). All of this seems almost too good to be true. But lofty ambitions are what makes for a good sales pitch, and if you read the press release after the jump, you’ll clearly see the car’s development is still in the sales pitch stage.Press releaseThi

Car Blogs -Tesla Model S - new teaser image

April 13th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Back in October Tesla lifted the car cover to show us the Model S sedan’s rump, and now the company is back lifting the same same tarp to show us all there is more to this electric car than just its ass. Tesla is in a similar predicament to many of the other larger U.S. auto companies, and it has its hand out to the U.S. Government for aid. Because of this the company is looking to get as much as publicity as possible, the Model S sedan has been promised to make its debut on March 26 — right around the same time it will hear about its loans from the Department of Energy. If all goes right the Tesla’s sedan will hit the streets 2011 to the tune of about 20,000 units per year. The price is expected to start under $60,000 (more than half off the Roadster Sport’s $128,500.) Range for the all-electric sedan is expected to start at around 160 miles but may possibly be available in a model that has an extended range to as much as 240 miles.

Car Blogs -Tesla needs more cash to get Model S off the ground

April 13th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

Tesla wants a piece of the bailout pie. It got a $40 million shot in the arm back in October, but now it thinks $350 is the magic number. The original plan was to be in full swing production of the Tesla Roadster by now, but only 100 of 1200 orders have been filled. Now Tesla is trying to entice Government aid by releasing more details on the next step, the Model S sedan.Although the Roadsters are still in jeopardy, plans to start showing off the five-passenger sedan are still being announced. The Model S may be revealed within the next few months. It is rumored to do 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds, while the range is 240 miles on a single charge. Tesla is believes that the sedan’s $57,499 price will provide a more everyday electric alternative to the $109,000 Roadster. Will an electric for the people be enough to bring the Government on board? Time will tell, but the Model S’s planned debut in 2010 will put it against some stiff competition like the cheaper Chevy Volt.

Official word from Tesla concerning their upcoming, and highly anticipated (if not over-hyped) Model S sedan is out. For all of the eco love sent Tesla’s way over their sportscar, a lot of greens have expressed more interest and hopes on the Model S, due to a couple of very well founded concerns.

TRUE ENERGY FREEDOM FOR AMERICANS

Since the dark ages people of the world been kept in the dark (no pun intended).                                                                                                  Until the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg, only the elite scholars and royalty could and were allowed to read.                    The public would rely on these readers to give them information and, in many cases, the readers would give them false information to keep them in control.

Early look: 2011 Tesla Model S nearly uncovered

February 15th, 2009 Comments Off Posted in Car News

With the official debut of its Model S luxury sedan slated for late March, Tesla has released a teaser image of its forthcoming high-volume model, revealing much of the car’s exterior design. Pricing is expected to range from $58,000 to $68,000, though the car’s eligibility for a $7500 tax credit will reduce that figure significantly. The car is about the size of a BMW 550i or Mercedes-Benz E550, and will offer similar levels of performance and luxury. The California-based startup is hoping to begin production in 2011.
